It highlights the responsibility of leadership to collective well being and supports the adage “Health is Wealth”

Investment in the primary health care approach builds secure, accountable and sustainable health care systems

Oriade is dedicated to providing basic health care to 140,000 poor people by 2020. “SAVE LIVES”

  • Progress has been made in reducing ill health and deaths in Africa BUT much more still needs to be done.

  • An estimated 400 million people lack access to basic health services of acceptable quality.

  • 800 million people worldwide incur catastrosphic health expenses as out of pocket expenditure exceeding 10% of total household income.

  • African health systems remain weak and unable to respond to health threats, emergencies and humanitarian crisis.

  • WHO estimates reveal that in Africa:

    • Service coverage indicators remain low.

    • 70% of the global health workforce shortage of 12.9 million by 2030 is in Africa.

    • Information on birth and death registration as well as other statistics are largely incomplete.

    • Health systems are fragmented, uncoordinated and insecure.

Your gift to IWG will enable the following programmes in ORIADE:

  • Expand access to health commodities, including an essential package of system support and services at primary care and selected secondary care facilities.

  • Improve birth and death registration, attendance at ante-natal care and child health care records through strengthened Civil Registration and Vital Statistics for Accountability and Performance (ViSAP).

  • Support coverage of indigent, marginalize and socially excluded populations by social health insurance schemes.

  • Enable quality improvement and management at primary care and education

  • Establish the Adetokunbo Lucas African Academy of Public Health to improve education and service delivery linkages between the front line health worker, formal medical training and services.

  • Engage in policy dialogue and advocacy on PHC systems strengthening as pathway for universal health coverage and health SDG (PHC4UHC).
